The Global Rockstar Album – 21 Verses to Find Your Tact as an Inclusive Leader

21 Verses to Find Your Tact as an Inclusive Leader

The Global Rockstar Album – 21 Verses to Find Your Tact as an Inclusive Leader

With “The Global Rockstar Album – 21 Verses to Find Your Tact as an Inclusive Leader” launching around the corner, I thought I would talk briefly about my journey of completing this book. Every book project is a massive team effort. I realized in June that it would be easy just to quit the project, so I forced myself a little. I used what I call the “people approach to managing projects.” Often when I am confronted with my inner corrupters and I find a way to get over myself I feel like sharing this with you. Here are my learnings from this fourth book launch.

1 – Tell the World Before You Are Ready

“The “People Approach to Managing Projects” has several steps. First, you visualize the result and paint a detailed picture of it. Second, you add post-it notes of people you see connected to this end vision. Third, you consider which role they will play in your end vision. Fourth, you reach out to them and let them know that you need their help. Then, you engage them for a job in your project, and finally, you find two commitment buddies who will check in with you on your success and report to them every week. It is also vital to tell the world about your project.”

It would help to hire a team of professionals and also tell as many people as possible about my upcoming book launch. Book launches are generally happening before the Frankfurt Book Fair and we wanted our current Academic Intern Kamila Banak, to be with us for the launch party. Hence we fixed a date (26 September) and worked backwards from there.

2 – Set a Hard Deadline

With that date in the diary, it was straightforward to move forward. After having spent so long on the book, I was asked how I approached revisions with a fresh perspective. When I started writing “The Global Rockstar” in 2017 on Lake Orta, I had a different outlook on my life and career. I was still debating whether I should return to a full-time role as a Global Mobility Manager. I even tried to work part-time in Global Mobility for a while during the Pandemic.

Still, my inner artist felt so neglected during this phase that even though I made a lot of money when many entrepreneurs had to shut down their businesses, I did not feel inspired. I could not finalize the book for at least two years. It lingered in a digital drawer and made me feel like a victim whenever I looked at it. Something had not felt right about it. I could not put my finger on it until I finally got back in the zone. A fresh perspective comes from readers, the feedback of learners, and the experience of working on the book. We ran a pilot with readers and asked them for their views and where they got stuck. We asked them how the book helped them, and I felt encouraged to move on as the testers reported their results.

3 – Let the Band Play (even when the Singer leaves the Stage)

Each team member brings in a new perspective. One team member is responsible for English language edits, another one helps with captivating titles, and one member handles promotions on social media platforms. I want to thank all my team members for working so diligently. They helped turn the project into a work of art. I do not enjoy the nitty gritty part of the process as much as the creative part, so I tried to give as much responsibility as possible to the “band.” I let them play and wanted to be involved in crucial content or marketing decisions. By the end of August, I left the stage as the lead singer and let the band play. It helps to let go.

4 – Follow a Proven Template

It is also essential to work in a structured manner and trust that every team member will do their best. Once the edits were done, I did not look at the content anymore, only verifying that logic and structure matched. I use the templates and steps from the last book launches and continue to refine them. I document every step of the process so I have it easier the next time. I even worked with the invitee lists from the last launch.

I care about details such as words, spelling, grammar, structure, typos, logistics, and my guests!  I am also involved in significant production, digital marketing, and launch decisions. And while I have enjoyed every part of it, I also have clients, family, and friends to care for. I wake up at 6 AM on the weekend thinking about the book launch.

5 – Cut out the Noise

This is my fourth book launch, and by now, I know how my inner corruptors feel. I understand that many artists fear showing their work to the world. In mid-August, I returned from a long-awaited journey to Pakistan and noticed we only had six weeks to go to the book launch. I was getting anxious and started to micro-manage more than usual. I found one mistake in the manuscript that triggered a lot of anxiety.

I had received four raving reviews from senior interculturalists at that point, but one remark from a friend almost made me stop everything. I knew it was time to drop the imposter syndrome and put the inner critic to valuable work. I am not sure if I have ever done this before but I printed the whole manuscript and went through it on paper again. Working on paper at this stage also helped me to get off the Internet and WhatsApp. As my friend D. said, “Cut out the noise and keep your focus.”

Five Steps for a Safe and Inclusive Environment for Expats

Five Steps for a Safe and Inclusive Environment for Expats

We talked about why building professional relationships is harder for expats. Now let’s discuss another side of the coin – how to create an inclusive environment for expats. If you were Dr. Rainer Schulz you’d probably ask yourself what you could do to build a safe and collaborative environment with people from different cultures.

1 – Deal with your Gollum

If you are an expat leader and want to create an environment where people trust each other, you will need to show vulnerability and role-model trustworthy behavior. If you wish to be trusted you might have to show your weaknesses, your Achilles’ heel, and let your team know how they can best support you. You might have to explain what triggers your emotional side, and what makes you feel weak. You might even have to accept that you are not a superhero and that nobody apart from your “Gollum” is expecting this of you. My advice is that you seek coaching to work with the inner critic and put him in his cot.

2 – Work on your Implicit Assumptions and Biases

It could also be that you have formed assumptions about the host culture or about certain behaviors that are not appropriate and could end up impacting your relationship with your international team.
One way to address this is to bring up your implicit assumptions for discussion in a learning environment. This gives you the opportunity to not only correct your biases but also learn more about the host culture and its nuances. In my view, it always helps to attend intercultural competence development training.

3 – Reduce your Language Complex

Moving to another culture often comes with a form of language limitation. It could be that the host language is entirely different than your mother tongue or that you are speaking the same language with a different accent and different cultural references. For example, American English often uses references from Baseball in every slang, which doesn’t translate into our context in Europe.

Sometimes even a small difference in how you pronounce a word can create an entirely different meaning for a sensitive listener. Humor, sarcasm or irony often do not translate so well and we haven’t even discussed the pace of speech, tone of voice, the use of silence, and interruptions. I try to listen more in conversations and take notes and often I have a hard time then to say something right away without the proper reflection time.

The older I get, the more introverted I feel and I find it quite hard to follow a meeting. I prefer to express myself through the written word. So, often I walk out of a meeting a bit lost. Maybe you know this feeling. I wish sometimes I could respond faster but the trouble is that knowing everything I know I need proper reflection time to come up with a good solution. My brain goes in overdrive.

You could make an effort to learn the host language better, use common phrases, get the dialect right and pronounce names correctly. This requires that you learn the names of everyone; from your clients, team members, and colleagues, to the receptionist and mail person.

4 – Accept Diverse Working Styles

Effective global teams allow for a variety of working styles and priority settings. However, many managers prefer to work with staff members who function like them. Unconsciously they find it easier. You can move out of your comfort zone and discuss differences in style with your team members directly. You could also address your preferences and request that team members accommodate your style to a certain degree or you could agree on the checkpoints that you need in order to feel safe.

Also, if you prefer to be included in certain communications you should address that. When you are in your first 90 days with your new team in the host company, I recommend a symbolic kick-off meeting where you discuss roles and responsibilities, collaboration rules and principles and develop the short-term action plan together (assuming you move to a participatory, egalitarian culture such as Switzerland or Holland).

5 – Co-create Culture-Appropriate Roadmaps

Nowadays, discussing vision and mission is often perceived as an alibi exercise by management as the pace of change hardly allows for a long-term vision.

Hence, I recommend you focus more on the next six months and weekly actions to get closer to your vision. You should still create a vision board for yourself and maybe paint a picture or write about your vision. You could also write a mission statement for your area of responsibility. For your team, though it is probably more important that you are fully present, your best self, and have their back when they need you.

The Swiss Summer Slump

Rainbow Talent

The Swiss Summer Slump

Seven Margheritas and Margaritas to Make More of the Downtime

The Swiss Summer Slump is around the corner. From Mid-July to Mid August, Switzerland seems to fall asleep. Despite the recession and terminations of contracts in the banking and IT sector, I expect the “Swiss Summer Slump” very soon. Decision-makers aren’t around to take interviews, and your chances of finding a job over the summer holidays are usually lower than in busy times. So if you haven’t signed a contract by now, I bet you won’t sign one within the next four weeks. Yes, I will invite you to Margherita and Margarita, if you prove me wrong.

With the start of international and Swiss school holidays, you notice fewer people on the trains, and motivation to work is generally lower than usual. This is when to take overtime compensation, go home at decent hours, and leave the country for a while. It’s also time to jump into a lake near you every evening after work.

Let’s pull out the deck chair, parasol, and sunscreen and just relax with a Margherita and Margarita (M&M)

Nooo, my friend. You won’t get out that easily.

The Cost of Margherita and Margarita in Zurich

If you lived in Zurich for a while you probably know by now that the price for a Pizza Margherita (note the different spelling) is around 18 CHF. A Margarita drink costs approximately 18 CHF. (And if you are like me, we never stop at one Margarita, when we have a good time). So, on a “normal” fun night with the girls you could easily spend 90 CHF. (I need to explain that because many people cannot relate to our price levels.). As long as you had a job you probably did not mind spending this money on a good night out.

If you are currently unemployed, trying to launch your own brand or you have just been given notice and you are not profiting from the RAV (Swiss Unemployment Office) financial support, I would like to help you save money and bring in an income to your family again fast. (You might remember our advent calendar for ideas to make money in December.)

Let’s look at the Job Market

Contract-to-hire positions are abundant during the summer season, and many job-seekers decide to take the summer off, which is a considerable advantage if you keep job hunting. There is another factor that is encouraging this year: Swiss businesses, despite all their efforts, can’t manage to hire all the needed workers.

This is partly due to this “Great Resignation” (this term describes a significant protest movement among employees related to their jobs, leading to a widespread wave of resignations and major strikes) and Switzerland’s healthy economic growth over the last few months. In the two decades prior to the Covid-19 shock, Switzerland demonstrated a commendable history of growth, with an average annual GDP growth rate of +2%. This figure notably surpassed the +1.4% growth rate observed for the Eurozone as a whole. (Allianz Trade Collection Complexity Score, 2022).

You can still find a Job

These exceptional circumstances might help you find a new job in the next few months. Due to the significant shifts in the labor market landscape since the Pandemic, many workers want to change careers. That, in turn, creates thousands of job openings. The Swiss job market presently has over 100’000 job vacancies (1st quarter 2022, that is +60,4% in a year, according to the Federal Statistical Office), mainly in the industry and service sectors. As a result, staff shortages have reached record levels (Jaberg, Swissinfo, 7 June 2022).

According to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), during the first quarter of 2023, there was a 2.2% increase in total employment (number of jobs) compared to the same quarter in the previous year. When adjusted for seasonal fluctuations, this increase was 0.6% compared to the previous quarter.

In terms of full-time equivalents, there was a 2.4% growth in jobs. Companies reported a total of 7,100 more vacancies (+5.9%) compared to the previous year, and the employment outlook indicator remained positive. These findings are based on the latest data from the FSO.

You may feel late to the game if you seek a job. The most common reaction I see from clients is to stop all efforts over the summer. But, of course, doing this would be counter-productive; you can use this time for your job search and business development by following our M&M Plan for finding a job and launching your personal brand in Zurich.

1 – Follow the HireMeExpress Online Course

Commit to a schedule by working with us via the HireMeExpress online course. It contains 12 PLUS three weeks of intense preparation to prepare you for the job market. We give you the videos, templates, weekly summary, and homework for the HireMeExpress program. You can start anytime. We offer this online course at a M&M Plan of 37 CHF during the summer slump and hope it will help you stay motivated and on track.

We also encourage you to plan your time to spend more time outside (you know you will need that extra vitamin D in a few months!). Starting this week, we recommend you work on a unique “M&M Summer Schedule” from 7 AM to 2 PM as I do, and then you can spend the rest of the day in the “Badi” of your choice, reading, listening to podcasts, and enjoying life!

In order for you to not cringe at the thought of paying 37 CHF for an online course I have tried and tested this recipe for a perfect summerly pizza without yeast.:

https://www.smarticular.net/pizzateig-ohne-hefe-rezept-selber-machen-vegan/amp/

And here is the recipe for the “Classic Margarita”:

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/tequila-classic-margarita

2 – Buy a new Power Suit

So, now that you are saving money as you learn to make your own pizzas and cocktails you can consider a short-term investment. Women need to get better at financial management and I am here to guide you, because I have in the past made mistakes that have cost me a lot of money. However, there is one strategy that always works for me: The Power Suit. You will need a new power suit for that next interview or business meeting. So get yourself a good new suit or signature piece or a few basics from Adam Brody in Zurich. Adam Brody is happy to consult you on your style as well. Let him know that I’ve sent you and ask for the “Angie” treatment.

3 – Enjoy a Beauty Ritual

I recommend another short-term investment in the M&M Plan is that you plan time to pamper yourself. Georgina Georgiu runs an English-speaking day spa in Zurich. The Pure Beauty Spa team is highly professional, and the products are excellent. You will get 20% off your first treatment when you mention “Angie” in your booking.

4 – Have Your Headshot Taken

Consider revisiting why a personal brand is essential. If you are looking for a photographer, we recommend Carmen Sirboiu, owner of Carmen. Photo. All our members and clients are eligible for a unique discount for a Premium LinkedIn and Personal Branding photo session with Carmen. Using the code ‘’Global People’’ you get the session at the Special Price of 180 CHF (value 250 CHF).

5 – Build More Professional Relationships

Summer is an excellent time to build new relationships and catch up with current contacts. Most busy people might feel less pressure than usual. Encourage them to enjoy the nice weather and spend time outside. So why don’t you take them for ice cream in the sunshine after work? Why don’t you request an early morning walk by the lake while enjoying a cold coffee? A personalized request is vital here. Remember the strategies we teach in our free workshops or read the book “Networking for Nerds” or “Give and Take”.

6 – Practice German and Prepare for an Exam

You have now been in Switzerland long enough to have at least started with German lessons. Ensure you have one exam in your pocket and the certificate in your application file. While the summer is a great time to enjoy your time off, it also has rainy days. Join Heike Reinhart or Yvonne Herrmann-Teubel for a trial class and work on your German.

7 – Enjoy a Holiday or Home Leave with Your Family

Summer is also the best time to be away from Switzerland. You will probably not miss much, and in emergencies, companies or prospects could also talk to you by video call. Charge your batteries and leave the city for at least two weeks. Your children and partner/spouse will probably love that you have time for them. This is also the best time to go on extended home leave and see your extended family members, high school friends and everyone else you have neglected over the last six months in your protestant Swiss lifestyle (Work, Work, Weekend, Work). If you have the capacity go to our RockMeRetreat Reading and Hearing List for inspiration

Buy the HireMeExpress online program by requesting an account here.  We will release the course as soon as we receive your payment.

How To Become an Expat Coach

How To Be A Global Coach – Digital Nomad Series

By Nabeha Latif, Digital Media Guru

Traveling the world with your laptop and setting up temporary offices in foreign coffee shops or on exotic beaches sounds like a dream. Well, that’s how easy being a digital nomad is depicted to be! The position, although flexible, requires some serious hard work and dedication to the craft. Experienced workers earn a hefty income and with a flexible work ethic, it’s the ideal job for some. For newcomers, however, the going is a bit tough when they’re starting off, they definitely need the right sort of advice that accelerates rather than hurts their futures. Let’s look at some essentials of being a Global Digital Coach and successfully clearing those early hurdles to cement your presence in the field.

What is a Global Digital Coach and what do they do?

A Global Digital Coach by definition is known to be a tech-savvy individual who works in a nomadic or remote environment, not an avid traveler going around putting scenic stories on their socials while barely doing any work.  Typically, you have a variety of skills embedded into their arsenal, beyond just having the ability to work in almost any environment. Such professionals provide digital services from their advanced skill set and work as independent entities. To become a successful Global Digital Coach, you’ll need to polish some essential digital skills. With the world rapidly advancing and social media being an intuitive and exciting platform, there is no base as solid or versatile, or as essential to being a Digital Nomad.

A digital presence isn’t optional anymore.

Marketing in today’s day and age requires you to go digital. Whether you’re building visual heavy content for the likes of Instagram or Snapchat, or focusing on a balance of visuals and text for Facebook and LinkedIn, you need in-depth knowledge of the platform and how its algorithms and functions work. More importantly, however, you need your own presence online where you can showcase your knowledge of platforms, tools and your specialist skills. That means a website.

Websites are still essential

With the increasing dependence on social media platforms, one would think that there is no need to have a website when you could just list your business details in the profile section of your social channels. However, websites allow you to set up your online office front and create, so to say, a place where prospective customers can come and browse through your wares. That makes them essential to establishing a foothold in digital work spaces.

Thanks to platforms like WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and more, building your own website has never been easier and requires little to no prior coding knowledge, though that always helps! A basic website should consist of contact information, skill and work showcases and a payment gateway, if applicable. The aforementioned tools can also integrate with website metric tools which will help you understand what visitors to your website like or dislike about how you have presented your virtual place of business, allowing you to improve and refine the user experience. As in marketing, websites require iteration, improvement and further iterations to keep you competitive in the industry.

Demystifying Social Media Platforms

Social media platforms have a plethora of tools to manage ads, content creation and customization to help you target your desired audience smoothly. It can be daunting to be handed all those tools and being told to grow your brand, so we are breaking down the critical features of the major social platforms that will let you hit the ground running.

Why LinkedIn (LI Pulse)?

LinkedIn’s reputation as the more ‘formal’ social network makes it quite underrated when compared to the other networks. Its versatility as a platform, however, is what provides a gripping edge for marketing. LinkedIn is primarily used to connect a user with business partners and other similar field workers to grow their PR (Personal Reputation), and having a transparent connection with a brand through such a platform provides quality engagement.

Setting up your brand page with as much detail possible is a solid first step, whilst keeping your page banner (cover) as well as display (profile) picture up to date. Much like the other networks, boosting your content is fairly similar but there are a few key differences. LinkedIn offers a few ad types for you to select from, the simpler being a Sponsored Post that appears on your audience’s feed at set intervals. Then we have Sponsored Messaging, which, unlike the sponsored post is much more personal. It allows you to market and message your target audience directly without hoping that your content appears on their algorithmic feeds.

There are further options within this method but the core usage is the same. A user or face of the company is utilized to send these messages, this will benefit the theme of LinkedIn as a platform and keeps a healthy professional conversation for you to benefit off of. If going directly with your customers isn’t your brand image, keeping it on the lighter side of things, Text Ads might just be your solution.

Launching this campaign requires the least effort, but the right placements and wording could have the most benefit! This method works on creating new leads and works on the base of PPC or Pay Per Click which allows you to have further control over the ad.

Finally, we have Dynamic Ads. This offers a unique ad and placement style that is not commonly available on other platforms. Dynamic Ads showcase your brand page to those who share similarities in job description, title, location, and other profile data. This ad shows up amidst your feed and showcases any fellow associates following the page you might be interested in. These can be customized according to your need whether it’s brand awareness, recruitment, or highlighting a specific service you offer. It is highly effective so tweaking it to the right audience will provide the results you need!

LinkedIn provides a campaign manager that allows you to manage your ads from one central hub, altering anything necessary and providing key insights with its open kanban view. The campaign manager is utilized to oversee ad performances and analytics to narrow down your desired results. But this isn’t the only way to boost your brand or monitor its performances.

LinkedIn Pulse is a key example here. Unlike traditional ad methods, Pulse allows you to publish larger amounts of text in the form of articles. The inclusion of more data from a single post is a huge benefit, which allows you more space to hook your audience and convert their interest into business. Pulse articles have an advantage over other posts as it is known to stay on newsfeed longer and even appear on Google search results. Users can also find any of these articles on your company page. This is especially useful for B2B purposes but is versatile to be molded into any form you wish.

Joining relevant social groups to chat and learn about the community is also a great option. Posting surveys and asking for other’s views on a subject can surely benefit the brand growth, so don’t be shy to start a conversation in groups.

Instagram (Live and Stories)

Though a Facebook subsidiary, Instagram’s platform couldn’t be more different. With an emphasis on visual content (pictures, Instagram Live, Stories and Reels), Instagram focuses on appealing to its audience’s sense of aesthetic and it’s really paying off – Instagram is one of the most popular platforms right now!

Instagram is open to many popular brands, as engaging with customers and users directly on this platform is very easy. The image-based scheme truly lets the brand show its true colors, but how do you target the audience you want? Here are a few key tips you’ll need to boost your brand image.

Instagram offers a few options when it comes to ads, which mainly consist of the format whether it is a picture or video and whether you’d place it in the feed, explore, or story. Let’s go through the simplest way you’d opt for after your page has been set up. You have the ability to boost posts from your page directly, this is especially helpful if you wish to boost your followers.

Since Instagram has a few key ad placements let’s talk about those, starting off with the stories. While swiping through stories and advertisements is seen to pop up, this ad can be image, text, or video-based with the option to swipe up and direct the user to the website/store. As for uploading a direct link to any comment section or story that won’t hyperlink itself, this is a sure way to do so. However, you can upload links to your page bio. Other ads include the main news feed posts, much like your normal feed, an ad can be presented in the signature box or 1:1 ratio format. These can contain carousel ads that let you post multiple pictures in a single post or a single video. The caption or text on these posts is substantially more considered to a story but you’ll miss out on the variety of colors and widgets a story offers. Collection ads also fit into this segment, which acts as a collage of images on one frame which allows the user to grasp more detail in one glance. The explore page shows the trending side of Instagram mixed with your personal interests, ads on here are similar to that of the newsfeed.

Though social platforms thrive on ad spend to help brands reach audiences and grow, certain organic methods are fairly common and useful as well. Instagram Live is an excellent example. You can broadcast events, Q & A’s, quizzes, discussion, and much much more from just one feature! This also allows you to go live with another user or brand to collaborate. Engagement can be boosted through the poll and slider options on Instagram Stories, which act as a fun medium for discussion. Similarly, the Ask Questions widget can be used for Q & A’s as well. Most influencers and accounts use stories as their daily mode of interaction between followers, reserving the posts for more priority content.

Facebook (Groups)

The reigning king when it comes to online connectivity and social media. Facebook practically coined the terminology used by current platforms and its early rise to its current peak is unmatched. Over the years Facebook has received multiple updates, often revamping the entire layout and introducing various tools as well as options to make itself more than just a fun way to talk to friends. Let’s dive in to see how Facebook works behind the curtain, and how you can market yourself or any brand using it.

For starters, you need to set up your page with all the necessary details – profile images and essential details about your services and availability are essential. This will help you present your page, and get an easy start with the marketing tips ahead. Facebook has several options when it comes to advertisements, so let’s get to them.

While posting on your page you’ll notice an option to boost that post. From there you can set the target audience, budget, and other details to get the most out of your spending. Similarly, videos and multiple groups of pictures can be boosted. Pre-existing posts will also have the option to boost or you could opt to boost a newly made one.

Similarly, there are other ways to set up ads or boost your brand in general. In terms of ads, you can define a set audience or experiment with changes to see what sticks better. From there you can use ads to get likes, engagement, messages, and even direct leads, there’s essentially a model for each company type. Facebook ads can be narrowed down to very specific targets which isa big bonus, as you’ll be targeting those who matter most. Not only can you select your audience based on age, gender and location, but you can also shortlist them based on their interests, habits, likes and even the time they log onto Facebook.

With share options, you’re able to connect other social media networks from Facebook and post to your accounts seamlessly. This works especially well in coordination with Instagram and its stories, so you’re essentially getting the best of both!

If it’s only increasing the number of likes that entices you, Facebook conveniently has an option for that as well. To manage all these ads and their varieties, the platform offers extensive analytics, and reports to oversee your growth. Also, not only is the network completely capable of advertisements and its management on its own but with the monstrous number of online tools and APIs available to link with Facebook, it completely raises the bar to another level!

With so much available under Facebook’s hood, that’s only a part of the whole story. A series of campaigns can be run without you having to spend a penny! These do however involve strategic planning and effort, yet the results are totally worth it. Like LinkedIn, Facebook has multiple groups that you can target based on location or type. These groups are a solid way to engage with the masses directly, posting regularly and keeping tabs could help you build a following that is completely organic.

If you’re selling products, for instance, Facebook Marketplace and Buy/Sell groups could be targeted directly with Facebook being so populous and receiving billions of users each month, it comes as no surprise such techniques work out to be fruitful.

Basic Help

  • Implement a Daily Mission Walk. The focus here is not on high-impact training, but rather on consistency. Go for a short walk and make it a staple of your daily routine. Motivate yourself by small missions such as taking the dog for a walk, recycling the glass bottles, getting bread or flowers, buying groceries without the car, and dropping a few items off at the local Brockenhaus (or Salvation Army).
  • Plan a Digital Detox. This one is not easy, as you end up losing contact with your family and friends back home, but it is well established that overuse of social media and technology has a high impact on stress levels. A weekend of digital detox will help you regain focus and have some time to think and reflect. I usually try to stay away from social media for 24 hours over the weekend. During the RockMeRetreat we are practicing to stay away from media for several days.
  • Practice PMR or a similar Relaxation Method. Work through Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) every day after lunch or before you go to sleep. Start with videos you can find on YouTube or buy CDs and audios from Medical Doctors such as Dr. Beth Salcedo (English) or Dr. Stephan Frucht (German).
  • Start Meditating 5 Minutes a Day. Practicing active meditation is also a good idea. I created this video to get you started. There are many more detailed videos on how to do this out there. I’m teaching active meditation at the RockMeRetreat.
  • Combine your first coffee with a morning meditation. You can also start your day with a short morning meditation such as this one. I try to combine my first coffee with a short meditation.
  • Start a Journal. Journalling is a great method to deal with your mind and emotions. If it feels like a lot of work, try a bullet journal first.
  • Join one of our Group Programs. Having a support group to help through any kind of transition is useful. With the current BANI world out there I would advise that you always build a support network fast and have a person you can trust and speak to about your challenges regularly.

TERMINOLOGY

Cinderella Complex

The Cinderella complex is created when dependence develops in the relationship and the need to be rescued by the partner. The Cinderella Complex or Syndrome was first studied by researcher Colette Dowling, who published a book entitled The Cinderella Complex: Women’s Secret Fear of Independence. To sum up, we can say that it is the unconscious desire of women to always have someone to protect them and take care of them, abandoning their own passions and activities. This may be due to how they are raised or to social or religious pressures. According to Dowling, this complex actually stems from the fear of being independent. The complex is named after the fairy tale character of Cinderella. Its title refers to an ideal of femininity as portrayed in that story, where a woman is expected to be beautiful, polite, and supportive of others but fundamentally incapable of either taking care of herself or changing her situation through her own efforts. Instead she is taught that she needs to be protected and taken care by another, usually a man. (i.e., the Prince). Dowling examines the deleterious effects of this socialization on the psychology of girls and women. The Cinderella and Prince Charming complex: fear of independence and emotional dependence
